The history of our company begins in 1905, when the sales representative Hans Hermann Rotert founded the trading company H. H. Rotert in Osnabrück.
Originally set up as a supplier to the woodworking trade, the company grew steadily and came through both the First and the Second World War without major changes.
In 1946, Hans Hermann Rotert handed the business over to his son and daughter. The company was converted into a general partnership (OHG) and remained a family-run business until 1989.
In 1989, Karl-Ernst Bohn took over the family business, including all assets, and renamed it H. H. ROTERT GmbH & Co. KG. As the ROTERT name was already known regionally and beyond, and the company had built a good reputation over the decades, the name was kept. Within the company, however, there were profound changes:
Alongside the regional retail business, a supra-regional mail-order catalogue business was introduced, expanding the sales market. At the same time, the product range was extended.
While the retail business continued to offer high-quality surface products, tools and accessories for carpenters, interior fitters and the woodworking industry, our success story with plastics began in mail order: plastic containers and bottles as well as occupational safety items were added to the range.
In 2001, the retail division was finally sold, as it was increasingly holding back further growth. Jens Michael Bohn, the son of Karl-Ernst Bohn, who has worked in the company since 2001, drove the complete switch to online sales, together with an expanded product range, in the very same year.
When Jens Michael Bohn took over the company from his father in 2007, the sales area had grown to cover the entire European Union, including Switzerland.
In the following years, a quality management system was developed and the product range was again extensively expanded. As the Osnabrück site offered no further room for expansion, the company headquarters moved to Bad Iburg in May 2012. There, ROTERT moved into its own newly built premises. More storage space, new offices and room for future expansion created good conditions for further growth.
Trade and change go hand in hand. The product range was continuously expanded and the number of suppliers increased to meet our customers’ requirements.
A consistent focus on customers, service and product range led to steady growth. In 2019, concrete planning therefore began for an urgently needed expansion of the storage space.
In the summer of 2020, the plans took shape. “Big change” was the keyword, at least as far as storage capacity is concerned: a second warehouse has increased the existing storage space almost tenfold.
The larger storage space opened up new opportunities, as nothing stood in the way of expanding the product range any longer. In 2021, we therefore put out our feelers and were able to grow: since 1 January 2022, the company aquaLaborservice has been a brand of H. H. Rotert GmbH & Co. KG.
The best conditions, then, to continue writing our success story together with our employees, customers and suppliers in the future.
